What's Happened to the TV Landscape?

Used to be, you had your cable TV subscription and your remote. That’s all you needed! The world has changed. Since 2014, cable TV subscriptions are down 23%. And the pace of cord cutting is only accelerating. Why are so many people willing to say goodbye to American Pickers marathons? Cable subscriptions had high bills and lots of irrelevant or poorly targeted content that subscribers didn’t really want to pay for. With a proliferation of streaming services like Apple, Disney+, and Peacock, along with old favorites like Netflix and Hulu, many consumers have taken the chance to right-size their entertainment options. The big shift to streaming services has brought exciting new programming (and new styles of content) into households, but it has also made it harder to figure out what’s on, what’s good and just How you should be spending your valuable time.

Pick Your Platform

No longer can you just flick on the TV and wait to be entertained. Now, figuring out what service to purchase is as important as picking a show. Why? If you pick your platform wrong, you’ll be boxed out of programming and left out of the cultural conversation. So, how do figure out the services that are right for you? Look at programming first and consider how you deploy your content to address your moods. Need programing to placate the kids? You’ll be all over Disney+. Drained by your job and just need to turn off your mind? Maybe you pick Netflix (then let Netflix pick your programming for you). Whatever you do, before you start staring at the TV, you need to get your life in order. Pick your, platform, gauge your mood, then click away!
